Ingredients
4.5 dl milk
115 g butter
135 gr sugar
1 tsp salt
1 Packet dry yeast
4 eggs
900 g wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
How to prepare Donuts
- Melt the Butter.
- Heat milk and add the melted butter.
- Let it become warm before pouring it into the food processor.
- Then add yeast, eggs, salt, sugar, cardamom and half of the flour.
- Let the food processor run until you get a smooth and lump-free mixture.
- Add the rest of the flour and let the food processor run for at least ten minutes.
The dough should be soft. - Let the dough rest for about 2 hours under a cloth.
- Put some flour on the baking table, make a long sausage and make buns of the right size.
- Squeeze the ball down a little and make a hole in the middle.
- The leftovers of the dough may be turned into small balls that you fry and cover with sugar and cinnamon while they are hot.
- You can also use a rolling pin and roll out the dough and use cake forms to get the donut shape.
- Let the Doughnut again rest for 15-20 minutes so it rises more under the cloth.
- Pour oil in a slightly wide pot.
Here’s a trick: when the oil is hot enough the wooden spoon will make bubbles around it when you stick it in the hot oil.
You can also try one of the small balls to test the oil. - Let the dougnuts fry on one side until they’re done then turn it over and fry it on the other side.
- When they’re done, place them on a paper towel to absorb the excess of oil and then on a baking sheet. Cover the finished doughnuts with a cloth so they won’t get dry.
- Finally add your favourite toppings: I have used ready-made icing, sprinkles and chopped almonds and pistachios.

Donuts recipe FAQ
Here are some FAQ to help you know more about Donuts!
How do you make the perfect donuts?
I think the secret lies in the way you make the dough. It must be worked on for a long time, preferably in a food processor.
Letting the dough rise enough and rising again is very important. see also ( Bread recipes )
The oil must also be hot, otherwise the donut absorbs too much oil.
What is the best thing to put in a donut?
Vanilla cream or chocolate cream that is probably the best.
Make a hole on both sides of the donut and inject the cream with a cream syringe. You can cover the holes with decorations if you wish.
Should Donuts be baked or fried?
I prefer fried but it depends on everyone’s taste and pleasure, while in the oven, it won’t be so soft and juicy. see (Fried vs. Baked Doughnuts )
What is the best flour to use for doughnuts?
I use cake flour for cake baking.
Wheat flour can also be used but not the coarser type of flour.
Why do donuts get hard?
Donuts get hard either because of the too much wheat flour in the dough or the too much heated oil to fry in.
