The zoological park of the City of Tunis is a scientific and cultural institution created in 1963. It was, for the most part, designed by German architects. Located in the heart of the capital, it currently covers an area of 12 hectares.
The zoological park is home to more than a thousand animals which are divided into three groups:
– Mammals: 61 species
– Birds: 94 species
– Reptiles: 5 species
These animals are monitored daily by three veterinarians and 26 caretakers. Particular attention is given to food which governs a large part of animal health.
Reproduction, exchanges with foreign zoological parks and purchases ensure the sustainability and diversity of the species presented.
The zoo is also a large garden where hundreds of varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers are the subject of daily care.
Relaxation areas:
The zoological park has created many green spaces to allow families and groups of children to rest, eat and have fun. There is also a Moorish café in the park.(1)
