“Beloved children have many names” say the norwegians, some call it meat in onion sauce or just meat stew or Meat in the dark (Meat in brown sauce).
This is a good old-fashioned Norwegian recipe that they made on Sundays.
The whole family gathers and the mother or father in the house prepares the meal for several hours.
The longer the meat is left on low heat in the brown sauce, the tenderer the meat gets and the better the sauce tastes.
Ingredients
- 1 kg of beef in pieces
- Brown sauce made in advance.
- 3 medium onions
- 1 bay leaf (can be omitted)
- Salt
- Pepper
How to prepare Meat in the dark ( Meat in brown sauce)
I put salt and pepper in the meat and let it brown on high heat on both sides.
Cut the onion into large pieces.
Put everything in a saucepan with brown sauce.
Use what is left in the pan after the meat! Boil it with little water and pour it into the pot, it gives good taste.
This should be simmered for several hours until the meat is tender.
Served with boiled potatoes and carrots.
If you have cranberry jam, it tastes heavenly with brown sauce.
